Happy, healthy, wealthy women know that in order to be successful, they need to feel their best. They prioritize their emotional and physical wellness, and create healthy habits around food, movement and sleep.
When life gets crazy-busy, many times the first thing to go is our own self-care.
We sacrifice our own physical, mental and emotional wellness, and end up feeling exhausted and run-down at the end of the day. We need to understand and accept that if we take care of ourselves, we can actually take care of others better.
If we consciously take action to embrace self-love, self-care, self-discipline and self-respect, we can show up for the people we love and give them the BEST version of us.
Here are 5 simple ways to take care of yourself and stay on your A-game all day, every day.
Eat REAL foods as often as you can. Real food = One ingredient
Real food doesn’t have 25 things in the ingredients (6 of which you can’t even pronounce). It doesn’t have a shelf life of 2 years, and it doesn’t usually come in a box, bag or can. Real food is simple, unprocessed, wholesome and nourishing.
TASK: Try to incorporate veggies (especially leafy greens!) and fruits into at least one meal every day. Stay away from processed foods, and do your best to incorporate all three macros (protein, fat, carbohydrate) to create a balanced meal.
We can actually learn a thing or two from Newton’s first law of motion when we apply it to our bodies...
A body in motion stays in motion, and a body at rest stays at rest.
You don’t have to work out for an hour a day to feel the benefits of exercise, but consistency is key.
TASK: Try adding in a mini workout to your morning or afternoon routine to get your heartrate up - even if it’s just for 2 minutes! Lunges, squats, burpees, pushups, situps and planks are all effective, equipment-free exercises you can do anytime, anywhere.
The adult human body is made up of about 60% water!
Here are a few science-based health
benefits of drinking enough water daily:
- Hydration affects your energy levels and brain function - even mild dehydration can impair aspects of your brain function, like mood and concentration.
- Drinking more water can help with weight loss by boosting your metabolism and increasing satiety.
- Sufficient water intake reduces the risk of kidney stones, acne, constipation and other health issues.
The general rule is to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day [so 64 ounces total], or you can multiply your weight in pounds by ⅔ to get the number of ounces. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, 160x ⅔ = 106 ounces of water per day.
TASK: Start your day with a glass of water, then drink a glass about 30 minutes before each meal, and be sure you’ve finished at least 64 ounces by the end of the day.
Sleep is the way our bodies recover, and although sometimes it feels like a waste of time when we have SO much to do and SO little time, sleep helps us in so many ways.
a few (scientifically proven)
reasons to get your beauty sleep every night:
- Help maintain a healthy body weight
- Sharpen your attention and concentration
- Lower stress and risk of depression
- Improve physical performance and stamina
- Lower your risk of inflammation and disease
TASK: Develop an evening routine that allows you to get at least 7-8 hours of beauty sleep. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until you’re meeting your sleep quota, then stick to your routine!
Let's be honest...
...some days can get pretty heavy, and the stress of the day can literally affect your happiness, relationships, rest, and so much more. It's important to take some time to reflect on the day - what went well, what didn't go so well, what are you worried about, what are you grateful for?
"Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light." - Brene Brown
TASK: Before you go to bed, take 5 minutes (or longer if you need it) to brain-dump in a journal. Write down everything you’re worried about, anything you need to do the next day that has your mind spinning, everything you’re grateful for. Finish with a prayer or positive affirmation so you hit the pillow with a clear mind and positive vibes.
To recap, here are 5 ACTION items to complete each day to look and feel your best:
- NOURISH your body with REAL foods - stay away from anything processed.
- SWEAT it out - even if it’s just 2 minutes per day!
- HYDRATE yourself with at least 64 ounces every day.
- SLEEP at least 7-8 hours every night.
- REFLECT before bed to clear your mind and get into a positive state.
